Topic: Courage is Our Superpower!
“Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented than you know, and capable of more than you imagine.”
– Roy T. Bennett
We were all born with a superpower called Courage. When we try new things or try something challenging, we are filled with excitement and anticipation because the experience will make us feel good, but we also may hesitate, or pause because we feel afraid or worried because we may be unsure how to do something or what to expect. When challenges feel both scary and exciting, it is a sign we can grow and learn from this experience. The challenge becomes a Blessing, or something good.
Using our superpower of courage helps us move past our fear, overcome our challenges and receive the gifts from the experience, such as, gaining a new skill like riding a bicycle, having a fun experience like riding a roller coaster, or building faith in ourselves because we accomplished something. We can also practice and learn to recognize the good in all challenges. When we feel challenged, and fear arises in us, we can say, “Something good will come from this, I am curious what that good will be.” Being curious makes us excited and interested and these feelings help us build the courage to overcome our hesitations and to try new things.
Create Your Own Power Word
Decide what your power work is. Consider something about your self that makes you feel strong and confident. We can all use Courage as our power word but maybe you want to use something like creativity, kindness or intelligence.

Mudra Practice: Ganesha Mudra
Ganesha, the Hindu elephant god, is the remover of obstacles just like courage helps us overcome obstacles.
How to do the Ganesha Mudra:
- Place the back of your left hand in front of your heart with your thumb pointing down.
- Place your right hand in front of your left, palm facing your heart and your thumb pointing up and hook your fingers together.
- Take a deep breathe
- Exhale and try to pull your hands apart, working your chest and arms.
- Inhale and release the tension, but keep fingers hooked.
- Repeat pulling apart on exhale and relaxing on the inhale.
- Rest and feel the power, resolve, and inner strength in your body.
- Swap hands and repeat.

and always one more time.”

Storytime: Everyone Can Learn to Ride a Bicycle
By Chris Raschka
In this simple yet emotionally rich “guide,” a father takes his daughter through all the steps in the process—from choosing the perfect bicycle to that triumphant first successful ride. Using very few words and lots of expressive pictures, here is a picture book that not only shows kids how to learn to ride, but captures what it feels like to fall . . . get up . . . fall again . . . and finally “by luck, grace, and determination” ride a bicycle!
“Don’t be afraid of your fears. They’re not there to scare you. They’re there to let you know that something is worth it.”

Music: Three Little Birds
By Bob Marley
“Don’t worry about a thing because every little thing is going to be alright.”
Activity:
Draw/ Paint/ Collage your own Three Little Birds. Use this coloring page or draw your own picture and decorate with paint, markers, crayons, stickers or collage your birds with bits of paper and glue.
What message would your birds have for you? What words will help encourage you? What would make you feel confident?
“Don’t worry about a thing because every little thing is going to be alright.” How does the bird’s message from the song make you feel. Would this be something good to say to yourself? Would it make you feel confident and courageous?
